Post- harvest Disinfestation – the Ambulance at the Bottom of the Cliff or an SPS Necessity? Integrated Production Practices and Post-harvest Clean Up Following the introduction of its Integrated Fruit Production Programme in 1996 the NZ pipfruit industry has significantly moved away from a reliance on broad spectrum pest and disease management options to targeted soft option approaches. The broad spectrum approach was required to meet SPS (sanitary and phytosanitary) requirements of some markets but these have now been convinced of the softer integrated approach, SPS requirements and the role of post- harvest disinfestations technologies will be discussed in light of NZ exporting 60 – 70% of its pipfruit production to over 60 countries.
