Effect of modified plastic film on storage life of mango cv. Nam Dok Mai Modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) of ‘Nam Dok Mai’ mango fruit (Mangifera indica L.) harvested at fully mature-green stage was done using 13 or 15 um thick polyvinyl chloride (PVC) film and 10-25 um thick linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) film. The fruits were then stored at 7°C, 13°C or 25°C with 85% RH. Results indicate that all MAP films markedly reduced weight loss regardless of the storage temperature except at 25°C in which the LLDPE films were more effective than the PVC films. MAP effects o­n other physicochemical and physiological changes, such as fruit color, firmness, respiration rates and ascorbic acid content, did not also vary with film type or thickness particularly at low temperature condition. All MAP films also prevented chilling injury at 7°C.
