Postharvest life of roses as affected by holding solution.

The postharvest life of rose cv. Raktaganha cut flowers treated with 300 ppm citric acid, 300 ppm aluminium sulfate, 0.5 and 1.0 mM silver thiosulfate, 1000 and 2500 ppm calcium nitrate, 25 and 50 ppm thiourea, and 1.5% sucrose was investigated. Cut flowers treated with aluminium sulfate showed the greatest flower diameter (10.30 cm) and water uptake (19.32 ml), while those treated with calcium nitrate (1000 and 2500 ppm) exhibited the longest vase life (8 days). Aluminium sulfate (300 ppm) and calcium nitrate (1000 and 2500 ppm) gave the highest fresh and dry weights on the third day and at senescence. Thiourea did not improve the postharvest life and quality of the cut flowers.
