Control of storage rots of Washington Navel oranges and Minneola by a combination of yeast antagonist and thiabendazole.

The effects of the yeast, Candida oleophila, and thiabendazole (TBZ) on the storage of tangelo cv. Minneola (MT) and orange cv. Washington Navel (WN) were investigated. MT and NV fruits were dipped for 2-3 minutes in water (control), and solutions of TBZ (400 ppm), yeast (3000 ppm) and TBZ + yeast prior to storage for 1-4 months. The average weight loss during 4 months of storage was 5.46% in WN and 6.42% in MT. Total soluble solids content was highest in yeast-treated fruits and lowest in those stored for 4 months. Initial ascorbic acid content decreased after 4 months of storage. The least roting was observed in fruits treated with TBZ + yeast.
