Notes and postharvest test of table grapes.

To maintain the quality of table grapes, they should be picked very early in the morning to avoid exposure to the sun and cooled rapidly in tunnels by spraying with or immersing in icy water. This should be followed by a treatment against grey mould (Botrytis cinerea) before entering the processing plant. From a comparison of 2 Italian plants for cleaning, selecting and packing of grapes in plastic baskets, it emerged that the more highly mechanized system performed significantly better. Output/operator was much higher due to the presence of a 'carousel' type conveyor belt for moving boxes for washing, empty containers, and baskets of processed grapes. Costs were reduced with this system.
