Study on treatment and physiology of litchi fruit stored under room temperature.

The effects of different postharvest treatments on the storage quality of 3 litchi (Litchi chinensis) cultivars, i.e. Huaizhi, Nuomici and Guiwei, were investigated. The results showed that the storage quality of the cultivar Guiwei was better than that of the cultivars Nuomici and Huaizhi. Proper postharvest treatments improved the storage life of litchi fruits. Packaging with polyethylene boxes was better than packaging with polyethylene bags in the first 4 days. Storage in an air-conditioned room also improved the storage life of litchi. Determination of fruit respiration, nutrition and activities of polyphenol oxidase and peroxidase indicated that these are related to fruit storage properties.
