Physical and chemical attributes of fruits of eight jaboticaba clones.

Fruit characteristics were investigated in 8 jaboticaba (Myrciaria spp.) clones from the collection of the Universidade Federal de Vicosa, Vicosa, Minas Gerais, Brazil, in 1996. Sabara (M. jaboticaba), Acu (M. cauliflora), Branca Vinho (unidentified), Cabinho (M. peruviana), Acu do Horto de BH (M. cauliflora), Canaa Acu (unidentified), Rajada da Zona da Mata Mineira (unidentified) and Sabara Sul de Minas (M. jaboticaba) were the clones evaluated. Significant differences amongst the clones were observed for all characteristics evaluated. Acu and Sabara Sul de Minas presented the greatest values for fruit weight and size. Pulp yield was highest for Sabara Sul de Minas (69%) and Sabara (67%). These clones were recommended for fresh consumption. Acu, Rajada da Zona da Mata Mineira and Acu do Horto de BH had the greatest peel thickness and fruit firmness, suggesting a greater potential for postharvest conservation. Canaa Acu had the highest amount of total soluble solids, with 17.6 deg Brix, indicati

ng its suitability for industrial processing.
