Development and evaluation of a novel cutter separator for food and agricultural products.

A novel cutter separator for food and agricultural products was designed, fabricated, and tested on beef. Chunks of beef were processed through the unit to determine its operational characteristics including product temperature rise, throughput, and power consumption. Product temperature rise varied from 1 to 4 deg C, mass throughput ranged from 25 to 180 g/s, and power consumption ranged from 3.2 to 3.7 kW. Spherical ball bearings were randomly inserted into the beef to test the separation capability of the unit. Bearings of 7.94 mm and 6.10 mm diameter were completely separated from the product.
