Mould content after harvesting in tunnel-grown table tomatoes.

A study was carried out in the winter of 2000 in Sicily, Italy, with cherry tomato cv. Naomi to compare keeping quality after different postharvest treatments. Tomatoes were treated 3 times with 100 ml Ortiva/hl (azoxystrobin) or 50 g Curzate/hl (cymoxanil) at intervals of 1 week. Ripe tomatoes were harvested 3 days after the final treatment. Packed in small plastic boxes and covered with plastic film, the tomatoes were stored for 14 days at 4 and 9 deg , and then for 7 days at 21 and 24 deg C to favour the development of mould (Botrytis cinerea). Results showed mould developing on the green stem and sepals of untreated tomato bunches and on those treated with Curzate. Hardly any mould was found on those treated with Ortiva.
