The impact of organic fertilizers and biodressing powder on occurrence of harmful factors in spring barley.

During 1996-98 the impact of organic fertilizers and biopreparations on the occurrence of pathogenic fungi in spring barley was tested in a field experiment in Borovce, Slovakia. Ekovert plus was applied as a biodressing powder. Trichomil biopreparation was applied to the soil to faster liquidate pathogens surviving in the soil on postharvest remnants. Vermihum and Superfin were used as organic fertilizers and a control variant and a fertilized variant with nitrogen-phosphorus-potassium were included in the experiment. In a 3 year period the lowest occurrence of Fusarium spp. and Pseudocercosporella herpotrichoides occurred following treatment of the seed with Ekovert plus and Trichomil. The impact of organic fertilizers Vermihum and Superfin on the occurrence of these pathogens also appeared highly significant compared with the control. A highly significantly lower number of whitened spikes due to Fusarium spp. and P. herpotrichoides was found following bio-dressing with powder Ekovert plus and

Trichomil. Similar results were found with the organic fertilizers Vermihum and Superfin. No differences were found between the variants on the occurrence of Erysiphe graminis and Pyrenophora teres. It is concluded that the application of biopreparations and organic fertilizers limits the occurrence of diseases communicable by soil, seed and after-harvest remnants.
