Study on fresh keeping of litchi fruits at room temperature.

In a study in 1996-98, fresh fruits of cultivars Huoli and Heiyeli were treated with polysaccharide solutions in combination with various disinfectants and stored (500 g) in plastic bags at room temperature, and 79.2-81.5% RH; controls were untreated. Fruits treated with polysaccharides at 1-2% or 100 mg/kg, DM (home made disinfectant) at 100 mg/kg and ML (home made disinfectant) at 200 mg/kg, with or without 0.01% emulsifier, gave the best results with 84.2-89.2% sound fruits, a colour index of 2.8-3.1 and weight loss of 2.3-2.71% after storage for 12 days whereas the controls had only 4% sound fruits, 100% browning and a weight loss of 3.1% after storage for 4 days. The fruits treated with polysaccharides + DM + ML and stored for 10 days showed slight reductions in sugar and soluble solids contents.
