Gamma irradiation of guavas to increase their shelf life.

Guavas were irradiated with 0 (control), 100, 500, 1000 or 2000 Gy, at a rate of 3000 Gy/h, and stored for up to 12 days at 25-27 deg C and 65-75% RH. Weight loss during storage was least in fruits irradiated with the lowest dose (100 Gy) and the highest dose (2000 Gy). Fruit firmness was greatest after storage in fruits treated with 2000 Gy.
