FRAC recommendations.

In 1997, the Fungicide Resistance Action Committee (FRAC) published a review of the activities of its different working groups and provided recommendations for the prevention and control of the risks of fungicide resistance in plant pathogenic fungi. As far as SBI (sterol biosynthesis inhibitors) are concerned, the recommendations are the same for cereal, sugarbeet, grapevine, apple and banana crops, as well as for postharvest fruits since, depending on the parasite, resistance is either stable or improving. With respect to anti-mildew products (phenylamides), the situation is stable for potato and grapevine crops. There is currently no resistance to anilinopyrimidins, but any possible future risks must be prevented. The number of applications against Botrytis or Venturia should be limited and the positioning of the application should be considered carefully, particularly for Venturia. Although resistance to strobilurins is currently not a problem, future risks must not be overlooked, and must t

herefore be prevented, by limiting the number of applications (successive sequences of strobilurins) and by alternation or mixing of different fungicides. Finally, as far as cyclical imides are concerned, (dicarboximide) and also benzimidazol, whose resistance has been known for some time now, the established recommendations remain on the agenda.
