On the new technological revolution of agriculture in China.

It is considered that there will be three main challenges in the 21st Century: rapid population growth, natural resource and environmental degradation, and hunger. Based on these challenges, the new revolution in agricultural technology emphasises coordinated development of both a sustainable increase in agricultural production and protection of the environment in order to overcome the shortcomings of the 'first Green Revolution'. The priority areas for the 'second Green Revolution' include germplasm resources, environmental and resource management technologies, biological N fixation and control, postharvest technologies, etc. China has favourable material and technological conditions and a good social environment for the new revolution in agricultural technology and this strategy is very suited to the Chinese situation.
