Biocontrol of Colletotrichum gloeosporioides, anthracnose agent on passion fruit (Passiflora edulis), with Trichoderma koningii.

Three isolates of T. koningii (Ti2, Ti17 and Ti25) from the rhizosphere of Passiflora edulis plants, and the T-25 isolate of T. harzianum with antagonistic potential against C. gloeosporioides [Glomerella cingulata] in vitro, were evaluated for their biocontrol potential in P. edulis. All Trichoderma isolates controlled the pathogen in fruit, limiting the necrotised area around wounds. The Ti17 isolate with the best performance in fruit was evaluated for its capability to control G. cingulata in plants. There were discrete anthracnose symptoms around wounds in the leaves when the Ti17 isolate was inoculated 24 hours before the phytopathogen. The Ti17 isolate remained in the phylloplane for 30 days. The results suggested the possibility of using Trichoderma for the biocontrol of G. cingulata on P. edulis plants under field and postharvest conditions.
