Friction and rolling resistance coefficients of fig.

Friction and rolling resistance coefficients were calculated for fruits of 3 fig cultivars (Yediveren, Sarilop and Bursa Black). Yediveren and Sarilop fruits had similar friction resistance coefficients (0.46 and 0.43, respectively) but Bursa Black fruits had a significantly lower friction resistance coefficient (0.34), where friction resistance coefficient is equal to friction force divided by fruit weight. Rolling resistance coefficients were similar in Yediveren and Bursa Black fruits but Sarilop fruits had a significantly higher rolling resistance coefficient. Interactions between cultivar and surface were detected in tests on various surfaces including aluminium, polyester, polyethylene and rubber. Bursa Black fruits, which have a round shape and firm texture, were considered to have the best postharvest handling characteristics.
