Isolation of phytopathogenic fungi causing postharvest berry rot of grape in China.

The causal agents of postharvest berry rot during transportation, storage and marketing were investigated in the major grape producing areas of Xinjiang, China. Some filamentous phytopathogenic fungi were isolated and identified as Rhizopus stolonifer, Aspergillus niger, Penicillium spp., Guignardia bidwellii and Trichothecium roseum. R. stolonifer and A. niger were the most common fungi causing berry shutter and putrefaction during the normal temperature transportation and marketing process. Penicillium spp., B. cinerea, Alternaria spp., Cladosporium sp. and Stemphylium sp. also caused frequent dropping and putrefaction of berries during low temperature transportation and storage. Furthermore, conditions for the outbreak of postharvest phytopathogenic fungi in the grape cultivars grown in Xinjiang were clarified in this study, providing an important clue for the control of these pathogens.
