Uptake of fungicides from post-harvest treatment and their persistence in ripening mango fruits.

The uptake and persistence of carbendazim and captan residues in whole mango fruits and fruit pulp was investigated following postharvest dip treatments of the fruits in fungicide solutions, and their subsequent storage at room temperature (25 deg C) and at a lower temperature (15 deg ). Carbendazim residues persisted throughout the ripening period of the fruits. In the whole fruit, residues decreased with a half life of 19 and 40 days at 25 and 15 deg , respectively. Captan residues persisted for <15 and <30 days at 25 and 15 deg , respectively, with half lives of 2.3 and 2.5 days. It is concluded that carbendazim was not suitable for use as a dip treatment for mango disease control because of its persistence.
