Post harvest losses of betelvine leaves & association of microflora with leaves and packing materials.

Post harvest losses of betel (Piper betle) during transit was highest (22.60%) in June and lowest (5.00%) in January with an average (11.39%) loss throughout the year. In storage, spoilage was highest (54.6%) in June and lowest (27.2%) in January with an average (39.51%) loss throughout the year. Some 21 microbial species were found associated with post harvest rooting of batel leaves. Pathogens were identified as Phytophthora sp., Fusarium sp., Colletotrichum spp., Gloeosporium sp., Pseudomonas sp. and Erwinia sp.
