First report of Thielaviopsis basicola on cool-stored carrots in New Zealand.

In 1995, cool stored carrots (0-10 deg C) were tested for quality and storage rots at monthly intervals for 3 months. T. basicola was isolated from carrots with black storage rot which had been stored for 2-3 months and accounted for 5% of losses. Initial symptoms were a fine mould which later turned black and caused large (1-2 cm), irregular black lesions. Carrots artificially inoculated with T. basicola developed the same symptoms after 6 d at 20 deg and T. basicola was reisolated from infected tissues.
