Factors influencing the occurrence of bacterial post-harvest diseases in tulip, caused by Pseudomonas andropogonis and P. gladioli, during maintenance after lifting.

The factors influencing postharvest diseases of tulip bulbs, caused by Pseudomonas andropogonis [Burkholderia andropogonis] and P. gladioli [B. gladioli pv. gladioli], during storage and distribution, were investigated. Disease occurrence was promoted by washing the bulbs in running water or dipping in insecticide for bulb mite. Pathogen populations in the bulbs decreased when the remains of the bulb scales and roots were removed before washing. It is concluded that disease development in the bulbs was influenced by wounding, wetness and temp. during storage.
