A new post-harvest disease of banana.

During October 1990, diseased bananas were collected from markets in Burdwan, West Bengal, India. Diseased fruit had small brownish spots which enlarged rapidly until the skin became black and soft. The pulp was yellow, soft, shrivelled and water-soaked. The causal agent was isolated and identified as Penicillium citrinum and is thought to be the first case of this pathogen infecting Singapuri var. Kabuli bananas in West Bengal.
