Physio-chemical changes of pineapple fruits under certain postharvest treatments.

A 6% wax emulsion significantly reduced the weight loss and fruit rot in Kew pineapples during storage at room temperature for 35 days. The highest TSS was recorded with 100 ppm NAA (16.4%) with an increasing trend up to 21 days, and decreasing thereafter. The acidity of fruits decreased gradually up to the end of storage period. A similar trend was observed for total sugar percentage. The TSS:acid ratio increased gradually though the rate of change was less with a 6% wax emulsion, followed by 100 ppm NAA. It was concluded that a 6% wax emulsion was the most effective treatment, followed by 100 ppm NAA, for increasing shelf life of pineapple during storage at room temperature.
