Effect of irrigation management and stage of maturity on predisposition and bulb yield to storage diseases.

Irrigation treatments and harvesting date significantly influenced bulb yield. Plant irrigation and late harvesting in the end of April resulted in increased bulb yield. Onion bulbs obtained from plants after harvesting and before storing receiving a higher number of irrigation treatments were more susceptible to all tested storage pathogens (Botrytis allii, Pseudomonas marginalis and Erwinia carotovora) than those received lower numbers. Early harvesting of onion resulted in decrease susceptibility of bulbs to infection with storage pathogens. Higher irrigation led to higher susceptibility of onion bulb to storage diseases. Maturity stage had a slight effect on predisposition of bulbs to the tested pathogens during storage.
