Effect of various post harvest treatments on the shelf life of aonla fruits cv. 'Gujarat Amla-1'.

Aonla [Phyllanthus emblica] fruits of cv. Gujarat Amla-1 were subjected to various postharvest treatments viz.: dipping in 1% CaCl2, 1% CaNO3, 2000 ppm potassium metabisulphite, 10 ppm kinetin, 1000 ppm Bavistin [carbendazim] and/or 100 ppm aureofungin, cooling at 4 deg C for 10 minutes or dipping in hot water at 52 deg C for 5 minutes. Dipping in 1% CaNO3 kept the physiological loss in weight to a minimum on the 10th day of storage at ambient temperature and RH and retained the maximum level of TSS, acidity and ascorbic acid. TSS content increased and acidity and ascorbic acid decreased as storage progressed. Fruits treated with 1000 ppm bavistin followed by 1% CaNO3 resulted in the lowest pathological loss in weight, the longest shelf life and retention of good physical appearance.
