Response of GA to extend the shelf life of sapota fruits after transportation.

Sapota fruits were treated with 150 or 200 ppm gibberellic acid (GA), 2% Waxol, 100 ppm kinetin or 2000 ppm maleic hydrazide in combination with 500 ppm Bavistin [carbendazim] to delay ripening and extend shelf life. Dipping in 150 ppm GA + fungicide solutions for 8-10 minutes, followed by drying and packing in wooden boxes using paddy straw as a packing material, gave the best results (most delayed ripening, and lowest weight loss, spoilage, and total soluble solids contents). These treatments also helped in safe transportation of fruits to distant markets while not adversely affecting fruit quality.
