Susceptibility to postharvest disorders in some red pears: preliminary indications.

The results are presented from a preliminary varietal screening for keeping quality (including storage disorders and postharvest losses) in the red-fruited varieties Rosada and Rosired Bartlett. The fruits of both kept for 2 months with normal refrigeration and 4 months in a controlled atmosphere (O2 4%, CO2 2-2.5%). This could be extended to 5 months in Rosired Bartlett if low oxygen percentages were used in the controlled atmosphere (1.2-1.5% O2 and <1% CO2). Data are tabulated on percentage incidence of disorders such as browning and internal breakdown in the varieties.
