Chilling injury on cold disinfested lemons.

Experiments to investigate various methods of alleviating chilling injury in lemons (cv. Eureka) subjected to a cold disinfestation treatment against fruit fly (14 days at 1 deg C, for export from Queensland, Australia to Japan) are reported. Early season fruits and those degreened with ethylene were the most likely to suffer chilling injury. The injury is anatomically described and is different from oleocellosis and other citrus blemishes. The unpredictable nature of the problem made it difficult to formulate reproducible treatments for its alleviation.
