Alternative strategies for control of mango fruit diseases.

Preharvest infection of mangoes with anthracnose (Colletotrichum gloeosporioides [Glomerella cingulata]) and soft brown rot (Nattrassia mangiferae) causes losses of export fruit. Methods to control these diseases on a postharvest level were investigated. In postharvest experiments with Keitt mangoes, ethanol (3 minute dip) and Bacillus licheniformis (B251) (7 minute dip) treatments significantly reduced levels of soft brown rot and anthracnose, compared with the controls.
