Chemical, cultural, and physiological factors influencing 'Stayman' fruit cracking.

 

Sixteen trials on cracking in apple cv. Stayman fruits are reported. The trials included a laboratory test for cracking evaluation, peel resistance tests (in relation to cracking) and investigations of the effects of fruit bagging, soil-applied fertilizers, root pruning, scoring, herbicides, foliar fertilizers, growth regulators (plus antitranspirant, adjuvant or copper sprays), postharvest dips, cold storage and cultivars (comparison of several Stayman strains with other cultivars) on cracking.
