An end-use analysis of global food requirements.

An examination of the long-term prospects for global food supply and demand is presented. The technique of end-use analysis is employed to identify sources of potential change in global food requirements. It is argued that there may be significant scope for policy to alter the relationship between income and food demand and that investments in increasing agricultural supply must be compared with investments in reducing the growth rate of global food demand. An analysis of global nutritional requirements is presented, and the efficiency of the postharvest food system is examined. Global dietary structure and the regional impact of changes in food system efficiency are also covered.
