Effect of spacing on biomass production, dry matter partitioning, yield and fruit quality in tissue culture banana (Musa) [AAB] Nendran.

Micropropagated Nendran bananas were planted at spacings of 2.25 x 2.25, 2.0 x 2.0, 1.75 x 1.75, 1.50 x 1.50 or 1.25 x 1.25 m in 1992 at Vellayani. Biomass production and fruit yield per plant decreased as spacing narrowed. Fruit quality declined and the number of days postharvest for fruits to ripen increased as spacing decreased. Shelf life was unaffected by spacing. Overall spacing at 1.75 x 1.75 m was judged best.
