Postharvest control of the grape and plum mealybug, Pseudococcus affinis (Maskell) (Homoptera: Pseudococcidae), with diazinon, methidathion and profenofos.

Application of sprays of diazinon, methidathion and profenofos after the fruit harvest against Pseudococcus affinis [P. viburni] were evaluated on table grapes and plums in Chile. These treatments considerably reduced pest population levels, but results were not significantly different between them. However, 2 to 4 months later, survivors were observed, utilizing corrugated cardboard as trunk bands. Under laboratory conditions, sprays from a Potter tower did not produce significant differences among treatments. Under these conditions nymphal mortality was greater than mortality of mature females.
