Combined protection of maize seed and its storage.

 

Several standard tests were used to determine the effect of joint fungicide-insecticide application on seed quality in the hybrids ZPTC200 and ZPSC704 during storage. The fungicide thiram (300 ml) combined with the insecticide tefluthrin at 100 and 300 g/100 kg seed in ZPTC200 had no adverse effect on germination. At an insecticide dose of 500 g/100 kg, emergence was reduced only immediately after treatment. Thiram (300 ml) combined with the insecticide carbosulfan at 4000 g/100 kg reduced vigour in the modified Hiltner-Gassner vigour test and slowed development of seedling roots immediately and after 6 and 12 months of storage. Flutriafol + thiabendazole + ethirimol (as Ferax) was insufficiently effective in controlling high incidence of Fusarium on ZPTC200 seed. Combined with carbosulfan, flutriafol + thiabendazole + ethirimol reduced total emergence in the cold test after storage for 6 and 12 months, and in combination with tefluthrin at the highest dose, flutriafol + thiabendazole + ethirimo

l reduced vigour immediately after treatment. Mancozeb at different doses was tested in combination with tefluthrin and carbosulfan in ZPSC704. The vigour test showed a negative effect of carbosulfan + mancozeb application in vigour reduction and extension of emergence, while the cold test showed a reduction in total emergence with this treatment.
