Occurrence of fungal strains resistant to the most common fungicides in postharvest of pome fruits in Lleida.

The distribution of mycoflora tolerant of thiabendazole, benomyl and imazalil was investigated in 5 apple packinghouses (reception zone, passages, manual selection zone and cold storage) in Lleida, Spain. Penicillium spp. were the most common (96.7%), of which 4.7% belonged to P. expansum. P. expansum strains tolerant of thiabendazole and benomyl were controlled by imazalil. The tolerant strains showed the capacity to cause fruit decay when inoculated to apples. The potential capacity for patulin production was detected in 60.7% of the strains tested. None of the P. expansum strains tested was tolerant of imazalil. Of strains, 89% caused fruit decay. None of the Penicillium strains tolerant of imazalil showed the capacity to produce patulin.
