Physiology and metabolism of fruit development - biochemistry of sugar metabolism and compartmentation in fruits.

 

During fruit development, carbohydrates assimilate in the leaves and are then translocated to the fruit and accumulate in the vacuoles. Sugar metabolism is closely related to key stages in the translocation process. Sugar and sugar alcohol metabolism for sucrose assimilation in fruits of Rosaceae is briefly reviewed and compared with other fruit.
