Adsorption characteristics of immobilized kaki-tannin and industrial application.

 

In Japan, astringent persimmons have been an important source of condensed tannins for use as a deproteinizing agent and for coating material for wood, paper and fibres. These tannins were easily adsorbed onto polystyrene resin by hydrophobic reaction then crosslinked with an acidic aldehyde. The immobilized tannins did not lose their adsorption characteristics for heavy metals, proteins or alkaloids. The column is expected to be useful for removing some proteins from Japanese rice wine (sake) which cause a haze during transport, storage and marketing, and for removing small concentrations of Fe ions from water in the food industry.
