บทคัดย่อ

Automated packinghouse for fruits and vegetables.

 

Research work on 2 quality control systems, the "Multi Sensor Adaptive Sorting" and "Automatic Place Packing" systems, is presented. A prototype of a conveying system for a multi sensor sorting machine was developed, which allows high speed viewing and inspection of both sides of objects. External and internal fruit properties are inspected by machine vision employing transmitted and/or reflected radiation, and items are impact tested while in motion. This enables sorting by firmness, based on differences in vibration response of soft and firm fruits. The combined information obtained from the sensors was passed to a neural network adaptive classifier program, which achieved more accurate grading than conventional non-adaptive classifiers. A simple place packing system was developed, based on face centred cubic pattern packing of spheroidal objects. Material, storage and transportation costs were reduced as a result of the better volume utilization of the shipping container achieved by this syst

em. Despite occupying a smaller volume, each fruit is compressed less since it has the maximum (12) contact points with its neighbours.
