NIR fast spectrometer for fruit internal quality assessment.

 

Experiments were conducted in order to determine the best wavelength range, the influence of acquisition time, angle of viewing of optical fibres and reproducibility when using near infrared (NIR) spectrometry for detection of sugar content in fruits. A commercial visible-NIR spectrometer (ORIEL) was used in the experiments. B-coefficient study was used to determine the optimum wavelength range, which was found to be 767-1027 nm. The acquisition time which provided the best compromise between speed and accuracy was 0.2 s. It appears that whereas angle of viewing has no influence, acquisition time is highly determinant on the calibration performance. However the apparatus still presents reproducibility problems.
