Studies on ethylene metabolism of kiwifruit after harvest.

ABSTRACT :

 

There was no increase in ethylene production or ACC oxidase activity in firm kiwifruits (cv. Qinmei) just after harvest. Ethylene production later increased to a peak, coinciding with an increase in ACC oxidase activity and ACC content during fruit softening. Ethylene production was higher in injured fruits or when exogenous ethylene was applied. Controlled atmosphere storage (2-5% O2, 0-4% CO2) reduced ethylene production and ACC oxidase activity. Postharvest treatment with CaCl2 had no significant effect on ethylene metabolism during storage.
