Handling and storage of the Minneola tangelo.

ABSTRACT :

Minneola has a short marketing season. Within 3 weeks of the fruits becoming palatable, rind separation occurs, leading to puffy fruits which are difficult to handle. In 1990, GA3 at 10 p.p.m. sprayed on trees prior to colour break, slowed rind deterioration and extended the marketing season by up to 5 weeks. Storage at 12 deg C extended the marketing season for a further 4-6 weeks but storing at a lower temperature for more than 3 weeks caused cold injury which spoilt fruit appearance. GA3-treated fruits held on the tree until Sep. developed excessive rind separation and blemish.
