Post-harvest handling of horticultural produce: a challenge to developing countries.

ABSTRACT

The need for improved postharvest handling of horticultural produce in developing countries is discussed under the following headings: The challenge, Political will, Thai horticultural progress, Supply and demand for horticultural produce (under the subheadings Export, Agro-industry, Cleaning vs. clean water, Sorting and grading, Modified and controlled atmosphere storage, Packaging and transportation and Postharvest terminal). Practical suggestions and methods are put forward to bring about the necessary improvements in quality of produce.
