Product quality of winter rapeseed.

ABSTRACT

The basic qualitative characteristics of 8 winter rapeseed cultivars (Ceres, Zeus, Eurol, Idol, Ramses, Falcon, NPZ 04 and Lirajet) were analysed during ripening from 1982 onwards. The oil and fatty acid contents stabilized 17-23 d before harvest, so the use of a desiccant 4-5 d before harvesting did not affect these parameters. 1000-seed weight was reduced by the use of a desiccant (Reglone [diquat]). Oil content was influenced by cultivar (1-4%), year and locality (1-3%), postharvest conditions (0.5-1%) and soil compaction (0.5%). The introduction of new cultivars increased the oil content and reduced the content of undesirable glucosinolates to considerably below permitted levels. The postharvest, handling and storage conditions affected seed quality.
