Fungicide treatment of seed potatoes: strategies for the control of silver scurf (Helminthosporium solani).

CR20754 and imazalil (alone or in combination with thiabendazole) significantly reduced the severity of silver scurf on potato progeny tubers. Fungicides were applied as the seed crop entered storage, post storage in Mar./Apr. and immediately pre-planting. At 1 site, control was improved by applications made to seed tubers immediately after harvest. At a second site, control by CR20754 was improved following application immediately postharvest. Control with imazalil products was, however, similar irrespective of application timing. Thiabendazole, when applied twice to the same seed stock, did not reduce silver scurf severity at either site. A single application of thiabendazole caused a shift in the tolerance of isolates (54%) to thiabendazole (100 mg/litre).
