Postharvest characteristics of native Australian flowers.

This review summarizes current knowledge of the postharvest characteristics of some native Australian cut flower (and cut foliage) crops, including Geraldton waxflower (Chamelaucium uncinatum), thryptomene (e.g. Thryptomene calycina) and other Myrtaceae (Baeckea behrii, Eucalyptus spp., Leptospermum spp. and Verticordia spp.), waratah (e.g. Telopea speciosissima), banksia (Banksia spp.), grevillea (Grevillea spp.), kangaroo paw (Anigozanthos spp. and Macropidia fuliginosa [A. fuliginosus], Boronia spp., Blandfordia spp., Caustis blakei (a sedge), Helichrysum diosmifolium and Clianthus formosus). Although more research is required, developing knowledge of the characteristics of native Australian cut flowers is leading to improved postharvest handling.
