Comparison of axial flow peg tooth and rasp bar cylinders for threshing soybean.

Optimization of soyabean thresher operation contributes to increased soyabean production. Axial flow peg tooth and rasp bar cylinder soyabean threshers, the types of thresher currently available in Thailand, were compared for threshing efficiency, seed breakage, separation loss and germination of the threshed seeds. The peg tooth cylinder thresher produced lower seed breakage and higher percentage germination than did the rasp bar cylinder thresher. This was particularly evident when threshers were operated at high threshing speeds (16.7-18.7 m/s.) A max. threshing speed of 14.7 m/s was recommended for optimum operation of both axial flow peg tooth and rasp bar cylinder threshers.
