A survey on the postharvest technology of apple fruit.

A survey on the harvesting, storage, grading and packing of apples was carried out through a questionnaire to 87 farms in Chung-Buk, Chung-Nam and Kyung-Buk provinces, Korea Republic, in 1992-1993. In 62.2% of farms apples were left in the field for a period of time after harvest. 60.7% of farms graded apples before storage and 31.5% graded fruit before transportation. After grading, 71-90% of apples were marketable. The general storage methods were room temp. storage and low temp. storage. The general storage room was small and disinfected by fungicide and sulphuring. Humidity regulation to prevent water loss from fruits was mainly achieved by watering the floor. The probability of less than or equal to 5% fruit damage during storage was 68.5%.
