Review: postharvest handling of bold tropical cut flowers - Anthurium, Alpinia purpurata, Heliconia, and Strelitzia.

Bold tropical cut flowers (defined as Anthurium andraeanum [A. andreanum], Strelitzia reginae, gingers (specifically the red ginger, Alpinia purpurata and its selections) and Heliconia spp.) are increasing in economic importance in Hawaii. Research to-date on the production (pre- and postharvest) of these species is reviewed. Long postharvest life can be achieved for A. andreanum and S. reginae flowers, but remains a challenge for gingers and Heliconia spp.
