Prospect for the control of fungal rotting in 'Cox's orange pippin' apples by low oxygen and low ethylene storage.

In tests of the effects of low oxygen, apples were stored at 3.5 deg C. with oxygen concentrations of 1.25, 1.0 or 0.75%. Rots caused by Botrytis and Nectria were not affected, but the incidence of Monilinia and Penicillium rots was reduced. In tests on the effects of removing ethylene from the storage atmosphere, Botrytis rots increased and Nectria and Penicillium were not affected.
