บทคัดย่อ

The effect of selective pruning on yield and fruit quality in 'Hass' avocado.

In a trial with young avocado trees the effects were compared of (1) removing by hand the vegetative flushes emerging from the centre of the flower panicles either once at the stage of 50% open flower or at weekly intervals for 6 weeks from 50% open flower, or (2) injecting the trees with paclobutrazol 2-3 weeks prior to the expected date of 50% flower opening. Yields did not differ significantly between treatments, but fruit size was enhanced by flush removal weekly for 6 weeks. Data are also presented on the effects of treatments on fruit mineral composition and fruit quality after storage for 4 weeks at 5.5 deg C. Paclobutrazol treatment increased the potential for poor physiological postharvest quality (determined by measuring polyphenol oxidase activity after ripening at 21 deg ).
